Meet George Jetson: Why Jim Carrey Might Be Exactly What The Jetsons Needs

Hollywood has been promising us the future for decades. The Jetsons got there first. More than sixty years after Hanna-Barbera sent an ordinary suburban family into the skies above Orbit City, Warner Bros. is preparing to bring them down to Earth in live action. And with Jim Carrey stepping into George Jetson's futuristic shoes, one of animation's most recognisable families may finally have found the wonderfully unpredictable ingredient needed to make tomorrow feel exciting again.

M eet George Jetson. His boy Elroy. Daughter Judy. Jane, his wife.

For more than sixty years, those names have belonged to one of popular culture’s most enduring visions of tomorrow. A place of bubble-domed apartments, moving pavements, robot housekeepers and flying cars, where the average family could live among the clouds and still somehow spend most of the week complaining about work.

Now Hollywood is preparing to introduce the Jetsons all over again. And George Jetson has acquired a rather familiar face.

Jim Carrey is officially attached to star in Warner Bros.’ forthcoming live-action The Jetsons , placing one of the most physically expressive performers of his generation inside a world originally designed according to the limitless possibilities of animation.

Warner Bros. Discovery included the project among films planned beyond 2027 in its August 2026 communication to shareholders.

It is an intriguing combination. Carrey has spent the last few years behaving increasingly like a man who no longer needs Hollywood very much. The Jetsons , meanwhile, has spent considerably longer behaving like a property Hollywood cannot quite work out how to make.

Perhaps they have finally found each other at exactly the right moment.

The Jetsons Are Finally Coming to Life

What Warner Bros. has revealed already gives us a surprisingly clear idea of where this new version of The Jetsons might be heading.

Jim Carrey will star in the studio's live-action adaptation, with the project currently sitting somewhere beyond 2027 on Warner Bros.' calendar. That gives the filmmakers something unusually valuable: time. Time to work out what Orbit City should look like in a world that has already caught up with so many of its inventions, and time to decide what George Jetson should represent more than sixty years after audiences first met him.

Carrey, then, is the first major piece of this new Orbit City to fall into place.

The rest requires a little more caution.

When the project first surfaced in October 2025, Carrey was still reported to be negotiating to star. Colin Trevorrow, director of Jurassic World and Jurassic World Dominion , was in talks to direct, while Trevorrow and Joe Epstein were negotiating to write the screenplay. At that point, Warner Bros. offered no plot details and declined to comment on the reporting.

Carrey's involvement has since moved from negotiation to confirmation. Precisely how much of that earlier creative configuration survives should be treated more carefully until Warner provides a fuller announcement.

As yet there is no confirmed Jane. No Judy or Elroy. No Mr Spacely, Rosie or Astro. But there is a George Jetson.

And Warner has chosen somebody who, only a few years ago, appeared perfectly happy never to lead another major movie again.

Jim Carrey Was Supposed to Be Retired

Carrey's relationship with retirement has been slightly less definitive than the word itself might suggest.

While promoting Sonic the Hedgehog 2 in 2022, he said he was "fairly serious" about stepping away from acting. He had reached a point where painting, spirituality and a quieter life seemed more attractive than another production schedule. It would, he joked, take something resembling a script delivered by angels and written in gold ink to change his mind. Then Dr Robotnik came calling again.

Carrey returned for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 , later acknowledging that his retirement declaration had been somewhat hyperbolic. His explanation for returning was delivered with characteristic mischief, including the memorable admission that he had bought rather a lot of things and needed the money. The joke shouldn't obscure the more interesting point though. Carrey doesn't work anything like the way he once did.

This is an actor who, at his commercial peak, could release Ace Ventura: Pet Detective , The Mask and Dumb and Dumber in the same year. Modern Carrey is considerably harder to coax onto a film set. The Sonic movies gave him an enormous comic playground in Robotnik, but outside that franchise his appearances have become increasingly selective. Which makes George Jetson worth paying attention to.

Whatever was in this particular script, pitch or idea, somebody persuaded Jim Carrey that Orbit City was worth a visit.

Actually, Jim Carrey Makes a Strange Amount of Sense

Casting Jim Carrey as George Jetson comes with a certain amount of baggage.

George's eyes bulge. His arms flail. A household gadget malfunctions. Rosie crashes through a wall. Mr Spacely screams at him. George ends up trapped on a treadmill shouting, "Jane! Stop this crazy thing!" …and there is probably room for some of that.

But it would also miss what makes the casting interesting.

George Jetson isn't really an anarchic character. He is an ordinary man living in an extraordinary world. He has a wife, two children, a dog, a mortgage-shaped existence and a boss who seems capable of firing him before breakfast and rehiring him by lunch.

The comedy comes from the contradiction. Technology has supposedly eliminated life's inconveniences, yet George remains permanently exhausted by them.

That is where the older Carrey becomes considerably more interesting than simply casting one of cinema's great physical comedians in a cartoon adaptation. The frantic energy was always only part of his talent.

The Truman Show understood the sadness sitting underneath that enormous smile. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind stripped away much of the performer's armour altogether. Showtime's Kidding found something even stranger in middle-aged Carrey, allowing sweetness, grief and barely contained instability to occupy the same face.

Even Robotnik has evolved into something more precise than a simple return to 1990s excess. Carrey still knows exactly when to explode, but he also understands the value of holding still before he does. George could use both versions.

There is something inherently funny about putting Jim Carrey inside the body of a suburban father who lives in a flying apartment, commutes in a spacecraft and still dreads Monday morning.

There might even be something unexpectedly poignant about it.

Hollywood Has Been Trying to Build Orbit City for Decades

Nobody should mistake this for Hollywood suddenly discovering The Jetsons . The industry has been trying to get George's flying car out of the garage for years.

A live-action incarnation was being developed with Adam Shankman in the early 2000s. Robert Rodriguez later became associated with a CGI version. Neither reached cinemas. Warner subsequently shifted towards animation, eventually hiring Sausage Party co-director Conrad Vernon to develop an animated feature in 2017. Vernon later stepped away as director while remaining involved as a consultant.

That same year produced another attempt.

ABC gave a put-pilot commitment to a live-action Jetsons sitcom, written by Gary Janetti and executive produced by Robert Zemeckis and Jack Rapke. The concept was elegantly simple: America's favourite future family, still living 100 years ahead of us, viewed through a modern lens.

Again, Orbit City remained tantalisingly out of reach.

The irony is that the longer Hollywood has taken to make a modern Jetsons , the more interesting the problem has become; because while George Jetson has been waiting for his live-action debut, the rest of us have been steadily catching up with him…

The Future The Jetsons Predicted Is Already Here

When The Jetsons premiered on ABC in September 1962, its future was an intoxicating cocktail of Space Age optimism and suburban familiarity.

America had watched John Glenn orbit the Earth only months earlier. The space race was accelerating. Tomorrow seemed simultaneously exhilarating and terrifying.

Hanna-Barbera took that mood and gave it a family.

George still went to work. Jane still ran the household. Judy worried about boys. Elroy went to school, and the dog caused trouble. They simply did all of it several miles above the ground.

What remains extraordinary is how much of that technological wallpaper no longer looks particularly futuristic. Video calls are the norm, flat-screen televisions are everywhere, tablets have become children's toys and smartwatches now sit on millions of wrists worldwide. And before you say it, yes, robot vacuum cleaners exist, and you could probably have one delivered to your door this afternoon. As for drones, they're hardly science fiction anymore. You can pick one up almost anywhere.

Much of what once helped make Orbit City look like tomorrow has quietly become part of everyday life.

The Smithsonian's National Museum of American History specifically identifies video calling, tablets, robotic vacuums, smartwatches, flat-screen televisions, drones and holograms among technologies imagined by The Jetsons that subsequently became real or recognisable parts of modern life.

Rosie still has some catching up to do… So do the flying cars. And, disappointingly, nobody appears particularly close to constructing entire cities on enormous pillars in the sky.

Yet The Jetsons achieved something more important than accurately predicting tomorrow’s gadgets. It gave popular culture a visual vocabulary for the future.

Smithsonian has described the original 24-episode 1962-63 season as one of the defining pieces of 20th-century futurism. For decades afterwards, whenever some new technology appeared, comparisons with The Jetsons inevitably followed.

That creates a wonderful problem for the new movie.

How do you make the future look futuristic when your audience is already carrying half of it in their pocket?

How Do You Make The Jetsons Futuristic in 2028?

This may ultimately be the most important creative decision anybody makes. Imagine designing Orbit City today.

Putting George on a video call won't do it. Having Jane speak to a computer won't do it. Giving Judy a screen she can carry around certainly won't do it.

Artificial intelligence can already generate images, answer questions, write software and imitate human voices. Cars can drive themselves under certain conditions. Billionaires launch reusable rockets into space. A humanoid domestic robot no longer belongs entirely to fantasy. The goalposts have moved.

One solution would be to chase contemporary technological credibility and reinvent The Jetsons as a sleek vision of what might actually exist several generations from now.

That would also be an excellent way of losing much of what makes The Jetsons look like The Jetsons .

Orbit City has a visual language.

The original series borrowed heavily from the Googie architecture surrounding Hanna-Barbera's artists in Southern California: sweeping curves, dramatic angles, glass, steel and the exuberant optimism of postwar Space Age design. Buildings such as Los Angeles International Airport's Theme Building and John Lautner's Chemosphere already looked as though somebody had dropped them out of George Jetson's neighbourhood.

A smart adaptation shouldn't be embarrassed by that. It should lean into it. Let Orbit City look like 1962's dream of 2062, polished through the visual possibilities of modern filmmaking. It’s better than the one we have! I’ve always loved the science fiction art of the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s, which so often depicted a glass-half-full vision of the future, where humanity had harnessed technology to create something approaching an idyllic utopia.

The tension between retro-futurism and genuine futurism could become part of the pleasure. There is no reason George's flying car needs to resemble something Tesla might unveil next year. It should look like a flying car imagined by somebody who thought tomorrow would arrive with tailfins.

Because underneath all that chrome, glass and anti-gravity, The Jetsons was never particularly interested in predicting technology anyway.

The Jetsons Was Never Really About Technology

Strip away the flying cars and the robot maid and something surprisingly conventional remains: a family sitcom.

The Smithsonian makes precisely that observation about the original programme. Despite all its futuristic gadgetry, the Jetsons dealt with many of the same concerns as the television families surrounding them: work, children, neighbours, money and domestic life.

George's world had supposedly conquered inconvenience, yet he was still stressed. That joke might be funnier now than it was in 1962.

Technology has spent decades promising to give us our time back. Email was faster than letters. Smartphones put everything in one place. Remote working removed the commute. Automation eliminated repetitive jobs. Artificial intelligence now promises to take another enormous bite out of the mundane. Yet somehow, the more technology promises to simplify our lives, the more complicated our relationship with it seems to become.

What happens to George Jetson when AI can perform half his job? What does Mr Spacely expect from an employee whose working day has been automated almost out of existence? What does family life look like when every appliance is intelligent, every surface is connected and convenience has become impossible to escape?

Suddenly the sixty-four-year-old sitcom has teeth again.

A successful movie doesn't need to turn The Jetsons into Black Mirror . That would be equally misguided. There is warmth in this property, along with silliness and an almost infectious optimism about tomorrow. The trick will be finding something contemporary to say without sacrificing any of it.

The best family films understand that children and adults can laugh at the same thing for completely different reasons. George fighting with an intelligent household appliance can be slapstick. George discovering that the appliance understands his job better than he does can be satire.

Jim Carrey is unusually well equipped to do both.

And perhaps that's where the possibilities of this new version become most interesting. The future imagined in 1962 cannot mean the same thing in 2028. Some of its wildest inventions have become mundane. Others remain wonderfully ridiculous. The society underneath them looks increasingly like a historical artefact, while its central joke about technology making life easier, only for human beings to discover entirely new things to worry about, feels remarkably intact.

That makes revisiting Orbit City more than an exercise in recognition. And Jim Carrey is a fascinating man to put at its centre.

He can still bend his body around a malfunctioning machine. He can still turn a facial expression into a punchline. But he can also play weariness, tenderness, frustration and the quiet suspicion that the supposedly perfect world surrounding you isn't making you quite as happy as advertised. George Jetson may require all of it.

More than six decades after Hanna-Barbera introduced audiences to the family of the future, Hollywood is finally preparing to meet George Jetson in the flesh.

The future has changed enormously since George Jetson first flew across our television screens. The exciting part is discovering whether Orbit City can make us dream about it all over again.

The Matrix Is Being Rebuilt. But Does Hollywood Really Need to Plug Us Back In?

There are films that succeed, films that influence what follows, and then there are those rare cultural earthquakes that seem to divide cinema into everything that came before them and everything that came after. When The Matrix arrived in 1999, audiences came for the black leather, impossible gunfights and a Keanu Reeves action movie unlike anything they had seen before. They left questioning reality itself. Twenty-seven years later, Hollywood is preparing to plug us back in. The more interesting question is whether there is still somewhere worth taking us.

T he original Matrix was one of those increasingly rare films whose influence escaped the cinema almost immediately. Bullet time was imitated until it became a visual cliché. Red pills and blue pills entered everyday language. Its clothes, choreography and green-tinted digital world became instantly recognisable, while its ideas about technology, identity and simulated reality proved considerably harder to leave behind.

Four films, an animated anthology, games, comics and countless imitators later, Warner Bros. is preparing to enter that world again.

As of now, there is no trailer, no confirmed cast, or even an official title yet.

But there is a filmmaker. And for the first time in the history of The Matrix , his surname isn't Wachowski.

The Matrix Is Being Rebuilt

The fifth live-action Matrix film is officially in development at Warner Bros., with Drew Goddard attached to write and direct. Lana Wachowski, who co-created the franchise with Lilly Wachowski and returned alone to direct The Matrix Resurrections , remains involved as executive producer. Goddard and his producing partner Sarah Esberg are also producing through Goddard Textiles.

Beyond that, the white rabbit trail becomes considerably harder to follow. No cast has been officially announced. There is currently no confirmation that Keanu Reeves will return as Neo, nor that Carrie-Anne Moss will reprise Trinity. No plot synopsis has been released and, despite increasingly convincing fan trailers and speculative listings suggesting otherwise, there is no official 2027 release date.

In fact, the latest indication from Warner Bros. points in the opposite direction.

The studio recently included the next Matrix instalment among projects forming part of its theatrical slate beyond 2027, making 2028 the earliest reasonable possibility rather than a confirmed release year.

Goddard himself has offered an even simpler explanation of where things stand. Speaking earlier this year, he confirmed that the project remains alive, describing himself as being in his “writing cave” and admitting that he doesn't know how long he'll remain there before emerging with something more substantial to share.

That may not provide impatient fans with much to dissect, but it does tell us something important: this movie is still being written.

That kind of clarity is increasingly important when almost every major franchise announcement now produces an ecosystem of supposed casting exclusives, AI-generated posters and fan-made trailers long before a camera has rolled.

Search for Matrix 5 today and you could easily come away believing Reeves has already polished the sunglasses and booked his flight back to Zion. As things currently stand, he hasn't.

What Warner Bros. does have is an idea compelling enough to have persuaded the studio that one of modern cinema's most distinctive universes deserves another trip down the rabbit hole.

For the First Time, the Wachowskis Aren't Driving

This is where Matrix 5 becomes genuinely interesting.

Drew Goddard isn't simply directing another instalment in a long-running franchise. He is becoming the first filmmaker outside Lana and Lilly Wachowski to direct a live-action Matrix feature. That is a considerable inheritance.

When Warner Bros. announced the project in 2024, studio production president Jesse Ehrman said Goddard had approached them with an idea they believed could continue the Matrix world while honouring what the Wachowskis created and bringing his own perspective to it. Goddard was equally reverential, describing the films as having changed both cinema and his own life.

Such an origin story is encouraging.

There is a substantial creative difference between a studio searching its catalogue for something recognisable to resurrect and a filmmaker walking through the door because he believes he has found another story worth telling within it. Whether that story ultimately justifies another Matrix film is another matter entirely.

Goddard certainly has an intriguing résumé for the job. The Cabin in the Woods demonstrated his ability to understand the mechanics of a familiar genre well enough to dismantle them without losing sight of why audiences enjoyed them in the first place. His Oscar-nominated screenplay for The Martian took dense scientific problem-solving and made it accessible, funny and intensely human. More recently, his screenplay for Project Hail Mary has reinforced his credentials in large-scale, idea-driven science fiction. That combination feels particularly relevant here.

The Matrix has always needed both halves of the equation. Strip away the philosophy and it becomes an expensive action franchise with excellent tailoring. Strip away the spectacle and you're left with two hours of people discussing consciousness in very attractive sunglasses.

At its best, the series made those elements inseparable.

Goddard's challenge is discovering whether they can be fused together again without simply recreating somebody else's formula.

Lana Wachowski remaining aboard as executive producer at least provides a connective thread to the franchise's creators. Precisely how extensive that involvement will ultimately be has not been publicly detailed, so it would be premature to assume she is creatively steering the new film from behind the scenes.

For now, what matters is that this isn't a completely Wachowski-free Matrix , even if the person sitting in the director's chair will be new.

After twenty-seven years, one of modern cinema's most distinctive worlds is finally being entrusted to somebody new.

The Impossible Legacy of 1999

Part of Goddard's problem is that the first Matrix has become almost impossible to separate from the cinema that followed it.

Go back to 1999 and the impact becomes easier to appreciate.

Hollywood action cinema was already undergoing enormous technological change, but Lana and Lilly Wachowski combined those emerging tools with martial arts choreography, cyberpunk, anime influences, philosophy, religious symbolism and a distinctly end-of-millennium unease about the machines quietly colonising everyday life.

Then they wrapped it all inside an extraordinarily efficient action movie.

The sight of Trinity suspended in mid-air as the camera appeared to orbit around her became one of the defining images of late-1990s cinema. Neo bending backwards beneath a stream of bullets was copied, spoofed and referenced so relentlessly that audiences who had never watched The Matrix still understood the joke. But bullet time was only the most visible part of its legacy.

The deeper achievement was making complicated ideas feel exciting. Plato's Cave, questions of determinism, artificial reality and the nature of free will weren't presented as homework audiences had to complete before enjoying the gunfights. They were the reason the gunfights mattered.

Even its simplest iconography carried ideas with it.

Take the red pill and discover an uncomfortable truth. Take the blue pill and return to the comforting illusion.

More than a quarter of a century later, people still understand what that choice means.

That is an extraordinary legacy for any science-fiction film to leave behind. It is also a fairly terrifying benchmark for anyone attempting another one.

The Sequels Complicated Everything

The uncomfortable truth about The Matrix franchise is that audiences have spent more than two decades waiting for another instalment to make them feel the way the first one did. But perhaps that was always asking the impossible.

The Matrix Reloaded arrived in 2003 bigger, louder and considerably more ambitious. It expanded the mythology, pushed the action into increasingly elaborate territory and delivered sequences, particularly its freeway pursuit, that remain remarkable pieces of blockbuster engineering.

It also began pulling at philosophical threads that the original had tied into an unusually elegant knot.

The Matrix Revolutions , released only six months later, pushed further into war, sacrifice and mythology, concluding Neo and Trinity's story on a far more operatic scale. Admirers found depth in that ambition. Others felt the clean mystery of the original disappearing beneath increasingly dense exposition and digital spectacle. Neither reaction has ever entirely gone away.

That's what makes the franchise more interesting than its reputation sometimes allows. The sequels weren't timid attempts to repeat a successful formula. If anything, they were almost defiantly unwilling to give audiences another straightforward version of the first film.

There is something admirable about that, even where the results divided opinion. Then, eighteen years later, Lana Wachowski went back in.

And somehow, The Matrix Resurrections made the prospect of returning again considerably more complicated.

The Resurrections Problem

Released on 22 December 2021, The Matrix Resurrections arrived in a very different Hollywood from the one that had produced the original trilogy.

Legacy sequels were everywhere. Familiar characters were returning decades after audiences had last seen them. Studios had become extraordinarily adept at transforming nostalgia into opening-weekend anticipation. Lana Wachowski appeared acutely aware of all of it.

Resurrections didn't merely revisit The Matrix . It spent a surprising amount of time interrogating the idea of revisiting The Matrix at all.

Neo was now Thomas Anderson again, a celebrated game designer responsible for a trilogy called The Matrix . His corporate masters want another sequel. Characters sit around discussing what The Matrix means, what audiences expect from it and how its familiar ingredients might be repackaged. Warner Bros. itself is even named. Subtle, it wasn't.

But that self-awareness created an unusual problem for whoever came next: how do you produce another commercial Matrix sequel after the previous Matrix film already questioned the machinery responsible for endlessly producing commercial sequels?

Simply replaying the iconography would almost prove Resurrections' argument for it. And yet its existence also leaves Goddard with an opportunity.

He doesn't have to pretend the franchise hasn't wrestled with its own past. Lana Wachowski already did that for him. The red pills, black coats, green code and gravity-defying gunfights have been revisited, questioned and deliberately deconstructed.

Perhaps the fifth film's greatest opportunity is to stop asking how to recreate The Matrix , and start asking what The Matrix means now.

Does Neo Even Need to Return?

For all the unanswered questions surrounding the fifth Matrix film, one inevitably towers above the others: What happens to Neo?

Keanu Reeves has become so inseparable from The Matrix that imagining one without him initially feels a little like imagining Indiana Jones without Harrison Ford. Neo is the face of the franchise, the audience's original guide into its world and, across four films, the emotional centre around which increasingly complicated mythology has continued to orbit.

But as things currently stand, Reeves has not been confirmed to return. Asked directly in 2026 whether Reeves or members of the original cast would be involved, Goddard declined to reveal anything, saying only that he couldn't speak about it yet. That leaves Neo's involvement firmly in the realm of speculation. And perhaps that's exactly where it should remain for now.

Resurrections gave Neo and Trinity something resembling a new beginning. After spending much of the franchise separated by death, machines and increasingly complicated metaphysics, its final moments returned power and agency to them both. Immediately dragging them into another existential crisis risks turning that resolution into little more than an interval between sequels.

But there’s another possibility: maybe The Matrix has finally become bigger than Neo.

The Wachowskis themselves demonstrated that potential more than twenty years ago with The Animatrix . Its collection of stories moved beyond the central trilogy to explore different characters, periods and corners of the mythology, including the catastrophic history behind humanity's war with the machines. It suggested that this universe could accommodate horror, tragedy, action and philosophical science fiction without requiring Neo to walk through the door every time. And that remains one of the most tantalising possibilities facing Goddard.

A returning Reeves could provide continuity without necessarily becoming the entire reason for the film's existence. Neo could be central. He could appear in a smaller role. He might not appear at all. The same questions surround Carrie-Anne Moss, Laurence Fishburne, Jessica Henwick and the wider collection of characters accumulated across four films. At this stage though, none of those choices has been announced.

This leaves Goddard with something increasingly rare when it comes to inheriting a franchise this valuable: room to surprise us.

The World Has Finally Caught Up With The Matrix

There is another reason returning to this universe feels more compelling today than it did even five years ago. The world has changed, technology has accelerated, and some of the ideas The Matrix once presented as science fiction no longer feel quite so distant.

When The Matrix arrived in 1999, the internet was still something millions of people accessed through screaming dial-up modems. Social media didn't exist in anything resembling its modern form. Smartphones were years away from becoming extensions of our identities. Artificial intelligence remained, for most audiences, something encountered primarily in science fiction.

The film's central proposition was fantastical: what if the world you experience every day isn't real? Twenty-seven years later, that question lands differently.

We now live surrounded by algorithms capable of deciding what information reaches us, synthetic images increasingly difficult to distinguish from photographs, artificial voices capable of imitating human beings and digital spaces where people construct identities that may bear only passing resemblance to the person sitting behind the screen.

AI can generate faces belonging to people who never existed. Deepfakes can make familiar people appear to say things they never said. Entire virtual environments can be produced computationally. The line between something captured, something altered and something completely manufactured is becoming increasingly difficult to identify at a glance.

It's still recognisably Carpenter, and while nobody is mistaking this for a death metal record, there is definitely a newfound density to his music and an ominous sense of pressure, like the walls are moving inward. And for an artist whose greatest strength has always been his ability to create atmosphere, that's an exciting development.

For decades, his music was designed to serve the narrative, building atmosphere, amplifying dread and giving his stories their pulse. Most listeners arrived at Carpenter's music through the gateway drug of his films, discovering the composer through the filmmaker.

Cathedral flips that dynamic on its head. Here, the music doesn't merely accompany the story; it actively participates in it, becoming part of the machinery that drives the narrative forward. This weekend, the Ninth Planet team will once again be making the pilgrimage to the hallowed grounds of Donington Park as Download Festival returns for another year of riffs, mud, memories, and mayhem.

As lifelong fans of rock, metal, punk, alternative culture and everything in between, Download has always been more than just another festival to us. It's a celebration of the music, bands, and community that helped shape who we are. But this year, we're not just attending as fans, we'll also be there as journalists, content creators, photographers, and storytellers, bringing you our experiences from one of the UK's most iconic music festivals.

And the 2026 line-up is stacked from top to bottom! With headline appearances from Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit and Guns N' Roses , there is no shortage of huge moments waiting to happen. Linkin Park's return to Donington continues one of the most talked-about stories in modern rock, while Limp Bizkit's headline appearance promises to be one of the most nostalgic and chaotic sets of the entire weekend. For some members of the Ninth Planet team, it will actually be our first time seeing Fred Durst and company live, a fact we're still struggling to believe.

Then there's Cypress Hill…

As fans of heavy music, hip-hop, and genre-crossing artists, we've been looking forward to this one for months. Cypress Hill’s influence stretches far beyond rap and seeing them at Download feels like one of those rare festival moments where different worlds collide in exactly the right way.

Another act we're incredibly excited about is Cavalera . As huge fans of Sepultura and the many projects associated with Max and Igor Cavalera over the years, from Soulfly and Cavalera Conspiracy to Nailbomb and beyond, we simply cannot wait to witness these metal icons in action. Their influence on thrash and metal in genral is impossible to overstate, and we're expecting this to be one of the standout performances of the entire weekend.

We're also absolutely buzzing to catch Corrosion of Conformity. Having been fans of their music for decades, getting to see them perform live at Download, with their blend of Southern rock grooves, and sludge metal attitude is right at the top of our must-see list this year.

And that's the beauty of Download. Some of the most memorable moments aren't always the headline acts. They're the bands you stumble across by accident, the artists who completely exceed expectations, and the performances you find yourself talking about for years afterwards.

One act that made a particularly lasting impression on the Ninth Planet team last year was the mighty Opeth . We'd always enjoyed their music and recognised their stature within the metal world but seeing them perform live took things to a whole other level. Their set was a masterclass in musicianship and atmosphere that turned us into lifelong converts.

Ninth Planet T-Shirts started from a simple place: a love for bold designs, alternative culture, and the worlds of film, music, and nostalgia that we all grew up with.

From horror classics to cult favourites, from retro aesthetics to modern icons, the goal has always been the same: Stocking the designs people genuinely connect with.

Up until now, that’s lived purely online. But this weekend… it becomes real.

Comic Con isn’t just an event, it’s a community! It’s where people who love films, games, comics, music and pop culture in all its forms, come together in one place. And for a brand like ours, that’s everything. This isn’t just about selling t-shirts; it’s about being part of the culture we’ve built the brand around!

This weekend’s event takes place at Maidenhead Comic Con, hosted by Bolt Events at Braywick Leisure Centre , running from 10am to 4pm on Sunday, March 29th . It’s a full day dedicated to all things film, TV, comics, and toys, with a brilliant mix of cosplay, retro gaming, board games, face painting, themed cars, and a wide range of exhibitors. It’s designed to be a relaxed, family-friendly environment where everyone is welcome to come along and get immersed in the culture.

Behind the Scenes: Getting Ready

Getting ready for our first event has been… chaos (the good kind)! We’ve been at it, designing promotional materials, organising sizes, styles, and layouts and building our stall setup. We’ve also been setting up all the techy stuff in the background, making sure card payments are smooth and ready, as well as creating QR codes so people can instantly browse the online range.

There’s been a lot of trial and error and plenty of last-minute adjustments, but it’s all part of the journey.

UNTO THE AGES Unveil “Never Fade” Video and Official T-Shirt

Some songs arrive as statements. Others arrive as quiet memorials.

“ Never Fade ,” the latest release from Middle England metal band UNTO the AGES , belongs firmly to the latter.

The band have now unveiled the official music video for the track, offering a visual companion to one of the most personal and emotionally resonant songs in their catalogue to date.

Written in memory of vocalist Xen Angeli’s brother, Anj Avraam , who passed away in 2021 following a battle with pancreatic cancer, “Never Fade” is not framed as spectacle or drama. Instead, it exists as a meditation on loss, connection, and the way love continues to echo long after someone is gone.

From a live debut to a lasting moment

The song was first performed publicly at Angel Of Rage Festival in Worcester last year, where UNTO the AGES appeared as main support to metal legend Blaze Bayley in front of a sold-out audience.

There was no way to predict how it would be received. Songs of this nature often take on a life of their own once they leave the rehearsal room. But something distinct occurred that night, a shared stillness, a collective recognition, the kind of unspoken connection that cannot be rehearsed or engineered. Since its release, “Never Fade” has also served a wider purpose beyond the band, with 50% of all proceeds donated to Pancreatic Cancer UK , tying personal grief to a broader act of remembrance and support.

True to the group’s independent spirit, the music video was created in-house.

Filmed and edited by bassist Mark Brown, operating under his visual work banner Mark Brown Photo , the video reflects the same restraint and sincerity that defines the song itself. Brown, a long-standing presence within the Midlands music scene as both a musician, photographer and filmmaker, avoids theatrical excess in favour of something quieter and more grounded.

The result is not a dramatization of grief, but a space to sit with it.

Writing about Anj felt like the only natural first step. Thus, “Never Fade” became not just a tribute, but the foundation stone of the band itself.

Angel Of Rage 2025 Live Metal Fundraiser for Pancreatic Cancer UK

The event will take place on 6th September 2025 at Worcester's most notorious and established music venue, the Marrs Bar to once again pay tribute to the memory and legacy of Anj Avraam AKA Big Viz; a talented musician, artist, writer and pioneer of the local alternative music scene here in Worcester City.

Anj was actively involved in the local music scene from the early 90s, right through to the time of his passing in 2021 and was known back in the day as the lead singer of the local thrash band X-10-8 and then later the nu metal band Wisefleaf. He was also the co-front man in the Hip Hop / cross-genre band Case Closed.

Sadly, Anj passed away suddenly after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2021 at the age of just 42. His time was cut short despite having so much more left to give creatively. And tragically this type of story is not at all uncommon when it comes to this particular cancer.

The event aims to bring metalheads together from far and wide for a great cause and a night of unrivalled entertainment. ‘Big Viz’ was an avid Iron Maiden fan since he was a kid, and he absolutely loved Blaze Bayley , so nothing could be more poetic than having him headline at an event held in his honour!

This will truly be a night of musical mayhem with a headlining performance by Blaze Bayley (Iron Maiden Singer 94 - 99) along with support from Midlands based bands UNTO the AGES and Last Agony. The event plans to raise £2000 this year, doubling the previous year's target.

As previously stated, metal fans wear their shirts like armour - a declaration of identity, a bit like flying a standard depicting the symbol of your Tribe, your House or Lineage. Green Day's World Tour Hits Download Festival UK to Celebrate 30 Years of Dookie and 20 Years of American Idiot

Finally! Green Day are scheduled to make their first-ever appearance at Download Festival this coming Friday, and being huge lovers of all things rock related, a few of us here at Ninth Planet T-Shirts will be heading down for what promises to be one of Downloads most memorable and liveliest events to date. We are so excited!

Their Download appearance will be a part of continuation of the bands Saviors Tour; an ongoing world tour to support their fourteenth studio album Saviors. The tour, which began back in May 2024, has so far included shows in Europe , South Africa , North America , and the United Arab Emirates .

The first-time Download headliners will be playing a two-hour set on the Apex Stage this coming Friday 13th June, where the trio plan to perform two of their most adored albums in their entirety; Dookie for the record's 30th anniversary and American Idiot which is now celebrating its 20th anniversary!

Green Day , who first formed in 1986 will then be moving on to play a string of shows across Europe, which will include dates in Italy, Greece, Germany and Holland among others.

Our team can't wait to touch down at Download this year, with performances from an array of amazing bands and a line up that will also include co-headliners Sleep Token and the mighty Korn - this is going to be epic!

But it's not just those of us who can make it to watch these guys perform live this y ear that are part of this movement! Sure, you may no longer be able to acquire tickets for some of the closer tour dates now, but you can always console yourself with the comforting feeling of a brand-new Green Day t-shirt to proudly show your love and support for this iconic punk trio!
